🏠 About Our Community

We are a lovely, free community hostel welcoming people who want to be part of our project. We're currently looking for people with the mental capacity, interest, and motivation to stay with us for as long as possible.

Current Priority: People who can stay longer than 2 weeks. This may change in the future, but for now (July 2025 and probably for a few more months), we focus on longer-term stays.

🔄 How It Works

Trial Period: You start with 2-3 days as a guest. After that, we see if it works for both you and us - it's a two-way street.

Important: After 2-3 days, YOU should initiate the conversation about staying longer. This shows you're communicative, which is very important to us with so many people here.

No Contracts: We're a free offer with no formal agreements. You must respect our dynamics, and if you fit in, we'd love to have you for as long as possible.

⏰ Daily Schedule & Wake-Up

Wake-up time: Between 7-9 AM (someone wakes up first and wakes everyone else)

  • You cannot sleep all day - this isn't possible in our community
  • If it takes you 20 minutes to get up, that's fine, but someone will be nudging you
  • Best attitude: Be happy to wake up and help wake others
  • If you're not in the mood to be around everyone immediately, go for a morning walk
Tip: Memorize everyone's names - it helps with both wake-ups and snoring situations!

😴 Snoring Policy

We handle snoring proactively to ensure everyone can sleep:

  • If you snore, someone will wake you up
  • If someone else snores, you might be woken up to help wake them
  • Approach: "Hey [name], sorry, you're snoring. I love you, but you need to move to a different position"
  • Do it with a smile and use their name
  • Severe snorers may be asked to sleep in the kitchen temporarily or leave if it continues

🚿 Bathroom & Kitchen Access

Important Reality Check:
Bathroom and kitchen access is NOT always available.
  • Since we have so many people, you might have to wait for a while
  • Special guests ( for exapmle roommates ) have priority
  • Some times may be off-limits due to special guests schedules

Alternatives:

  • Nearby hotel reception for bathroom emergencies
  • Public facilities within 2-3 minutes walk
  • Supermarket microwaves for food
  • We have videos showing where these places are

🏥 Health Policy

Zero Tolerance for Illness: If you're sick for any reason, you cannot stay. This protects everyone else from getting sick and the project from collapsing.

With 10-15 people here, one sick person can crash the entire community. This isn't personal - it's practical necessity.

🎯 Areas of Focus & Tasks

To avoid overwhelming new people, you can choose one area of focus:

  • Choose an area that's easier for you to learn and us to teach
  • You're not responsible for it, but you learn more about it
  • You help teach new people and remind others about procedures
  • Example: Kitchen focus means reminding people to take trash when leaving
  • Goal: Find tasks you like and people you like to do them with
Philosophy: Be sociable, meet people, do useful things together. Have fun while being active, proactive, productive, and helpful.

💪 Community Philosophy

Core Principle: Everyone tries their best to be active and proactive all the time.

When you're overwhelmed or can't do a task:

  • Communicate: "I had a hard night, I don't think I can do physical tasks right now"
  • Don't: Just say no, ignore requests, do a bad job, or build up resentment
  • Alternative: Go for a walk, take time to clear your head, come back when ready
Ideal Response: If someone says "Chop chop, let's do something!" your ideal reaction should be "Let's do it!"

When overwhelmed: Leave temporarily rather than staying around in a non-proactive mood. We have videos showing beautiful places to relax nearby.

🎒 Backup Plan - ESSENTIAL

ALWAYS have a backup plan. ALWAYS.

Why you need one:

  • You get sick (most common reason)
  • It doesn't work out personality-wise
  • We reach capacity
  • Unexpected situations arise

Backup options:

  • Money for alternative accommodation
  • Tent for camping
  • Other housing arrangements

Good news: Usually you don't need the backup plan, and we can often arrange alternative apartments for longer-term stays.

📋 Arrival Coordination

Critical Steps:

  1. Fill out the form we send you IMMEDIATELY (today or tomorrow)
  2. Coordinate your arrival - don't come without confirming someone will be there
  3. Join the house people group 2-3 days before arriving
  4. Send the arrival text on the day you're arriving or the day before
  5. We'll send you the address and bell-ringing instructions
Important: If you delay filling out the form, you might land in the "red area" of our sleeping plan and we may be at full capacity!
Stay Focused: Especially in your first few days, stay focused on the project. It takes energy for us to include you, so be more attentive at the beginning.
