If you're unsure whether you're still welcome after 2 days, just come and ask — open communication is really appreciated.
It's always tough to ask someone to leave. Not because it's hard to find somewhere else to stay — there's actually a homeless shelter for 5 CHF a night, and we have a list of numbers you can call if that's not for you.
It's hard because people often really enjoy staying here and want to stay longer — and we love that! But we can't have everyone stay more than 2–3 days.
Living with strangers for longer than a few days can be emotionally draining. If we haven't really connected by then, it often starts feeling like we're just sleeping next to strangers, and that's not the atmosphere we aim for.
Please don't overstay — if you've had your 2–3 days and the connection hasn't grown, we kindly ask you to move on so we can avoid any awkward conversations.
💯 Good to know:
Those 2-3 days are an opportunity for amazing connections! Many guests have formed wonderful friendships that started in just 48 hours.
🤝 Want to Stay Longer?
If you know from the start that you'd like to stay longer, try to be active and engaged from day one.
One of the best ways to do that is by helping with the project, just like someone probably helped you when you arrived — showing you around with a smile and a kind attitude.
If communication isn't your strength, that's okay! We also have a list of technical tasks anyone can pick from.
Rule of thumb: if you're staying more than 2–3 days, aim to do one task per day.
Contributing to the community has helped many guests extend their stay while having a great time! It's a win-win that creates a welcoming space for everyone.
💬 Fair Exchange & Compatibility
We never want anyone to feel like they're "working for us." If something feels off or unfair, please talk to us. We're open to discussing it.
In the past, some people misunderstood the idea and thought this was about labor — it's not. That's why we're writing it clearly here.
We don't need help. But if you genuinely enjoy helping, then we'll also enjoy your company more.
If you're doing something just to fulfill an obligation and not because you want to, we prefer that you don't.
And if it's just not a good fit — that's totally fine. Please don't stretch out a weird or uncomfortable situation. If it doesn't feel right, just move on after a couple of days.
💯 Good to know:
The best stays happen when everyone feels comfortable and happy! Honest communication creates a much better experience for everyone involved.
⭐ Most Important
95% of the people who come through here have a fantastic time.
This message is only for the rare cases when things don't work out — and in those situations, we need to be a bit more direct.
We're not compatible with everyone, and that's okay.
Communication is key. Sometimes language can be a challenge, but we've had many guests who didn't speak the same language and still had a lovely time — because of their attitude, friendliness, and willingness to engage.
So smile, enjoy the experience, be respectful, and try not to be a burden — and everything will flow beautifully.
💯 Remember:
Almost everyone has an amazing experience here! These guidelines just help make sure that continues to be true for you and everyone else. We're excited to welcome you!
🌙 Snoring
If you snore very loudly, it might wake you up during the night — and possibly others too.
If it becomes a problem and nothing helps, we may kindly ask you to leave the next day.
Please let us know in advance if you're aware you snore. This way, we can try to find a solution together.
If you don't let us know, it will cost a lot of energy to figure it out in the middle of the night, and we may not have the energy to try another night.
Many people are staying here. If one person prevents others from sleeping well, we have to prioritize the group's well-being. It's never easy, and we're truly sorry, but we may still have to ask you to leave.
Feel free to Google tips on how to reduce or prevent snoring — there are some good ones out there!
💯 Good to know:
Many snoring issues can be resolved with simple solutions! Sleeping positions, nasal strips, or even staying hydrated can make a big difference.
🤒 Feeling Sick?
If you know you're sick before arriving, please find a different place to stay.
We can help you look for options if needed — but we simply can't risk everyone else here getting sick.
💯 Good to know:
Your health is important to us! We're happy to help suggest local healthcare options if needed and look forward to hosting you when you're feeling better.
