Staying in Bern

🌟 Free Community Hostel 🌟

⚠️ IMPORTANT - Read Before Coming ⚠️

Important Information

About This Space

We are a free community hostel for everyone that wants to witness the power of cultural exchange. We can share videos so you can see how we all fit into this small place - mattresses all over 🀣

Important Note: If you are ONLY looking for a place to stay, please find another Airbnb. If you want to experience the beauty of global diversity, come to us 😍

There is no need to book on Airbnb, because this is FREE, but you do have to have a phone call before coming, to make sure there are no misunderstandings ✌🏻

The Space

We have one huge room with many couches and mattresses. Sometimes we have another room where more people can sleep when it's available.

If it's too much for you to sleep in one room with so many people but you'd still like to experience the community, you're welcome to come visit anyway anytime. If you want to stay with us in the same house but have a room for yourself, that's also possible if you can contribute in some way to the project (for example monetarily or by helping us with any of the tasks). Just ask us if any rooms are available 😊

🏠 House Etiquette 🏠

😌 Feel at Home

As soon as you arrive, please feel and act like you already live here for a long time. From the beginning, you're part of the group and not like a guest!

In the cold Bern this is the place where you can find a warm home. We are offering this free place because we believe in supporting each other.

🧩 Daily Schedule 🧩

Evening Check-in: To guarantee a place to sleep, you must be in the house by 8 PM every evening. If you can't make it before then, please arrange with someone in the community to ensure you have a spot. If no one can confirm this for you, then please find another place to stay for that night.

Morning Routine: We wake up early, between 6-8 am, and clean the house together for 1–2 hours. Please join in and help keep our shared space tidy and welcoming.

πŸ›Œ Bedding

You'll need to put on and remove your own sheetsβ€”this helps keep things manageable for everyone. If you'd rather have someone do it for you, we can arrange that for 20 francs or perhaps some chocolate 🍫 πŸ˜‰

🀼 Shared Responsibilities

We expect everyone to contribute to household tasks, which include:

Helping out: If you're staying longer than 2–3 days, please contribute to other tasks around the house. Just ask, and we'll share our task list, you can choose something you like and do it together with someone you like 😎

Groups: If you're arriving with more than 3 people, please take on additional responsibilities, even if you're only staying for 2–3 days. Hosting groups requires extra effort, so we appreciate you balancing this out. If you'd prefer to contribute financially instead of with your time, we will also really appreciate this contribution.

⚠️ Important - Neighbor Relations ⚠️

Be discreet with neighbors: If you happen to interact with them, casually mention that you're a friend of Joe and are just visiting for a short while (not staying overnight). Afterward, please inform us about the conversation. We would like to maintain a very good dynamic with them, and we want to know how many guests they meet (do they meet 1 guest a week, or 5 a dayπŸ˜‰).

Once again, this is NOT a business!

We are a free community hostel, not an Airbnb. We are not making a profitβ€”we simply want to help people find a place to stay.

We have had problems with the neighbors and with specific guests before, that's why we require having a phone call with you before you arrive so we can make sure that there are no misunderstandings.

β™₯️ Community Spirit

We expect everyone to help each other and not hesitate to ask for help πŸ’–

For example: "Where are the sheets?" "Where is a good place to go sightseeing?" "Which supermarket is cheapest?"

We want to build a place in which everybody participates actively, we don't offer any services other than human companionship and collective work.

If you feel unsafe, especially as a woman, check the reviews to see what other women wrote (also on Google). There will also be other women in the house, and you will have your own bed or mattress. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, we will find a good solution for you if you reach out to us (admins of the group, especially the women).
